Intellectual Property Rights: Copyright, Patents and Trademarks
by Stephanie Casha on Jul.30, 2011, under Management, Marketing
What is intellectual property rights?
Intellectual property rights are rights, which cover the products of the market. When creative people come together and wish to set up a business, all their own ideas are subject to a copyright right. Therefore, a business idea need to become a creative expression. An idea becomes a creative expression when eventually it will turn into a tangible product; example, there was a woman who had a baby, and she could not transport milk or water in a beaker because it split outside. The mother, who knew about the tangible problem, invented a beaker that had a valve. What do you think the mother had done? She sent a box with a beaker full of water to a company who produced children utensils, and she wrote a note inside. If the water is still in the beaker, please give me a call and that what has happened. She had this invention and then wanted to protect it with a patent. The investor knew that there was this problem in the market, and that it was an excellent idea. This is why it was protected with a patent. The mother’s idea and her creative expression became a tangible product. This will introduce the concept of product design as well.
There are different intellectual property rights, which are recognized all over the world including in Malta. They are subject to an international agreement and also to national law. International incorporates the meaning, all over the world i.e. all countries; for example, in the copyright we all have a regional agreement on a European Union level that creates certain basic rules for intellectual property rights.
There are three different intellectual property rights which are:
- copyright – protects various things like literacy, music etc
- patents- protects innovations and procedures. Recently, the University of Malta developed the laparoscopic tools for surgeons and bought a patent too for this invention. (A scissors which combines, a hook and grasper, thus speeding up keyhole surgery)
- trademarks- used for company names and product names
Hope all of you there have understood what is intellectual property right! In the next post, I will blog about the different types of intellectual property rights, so keep in touch with my blog!

Seo Malta
Most web development companies in Malta do provide seo services, but are they really seo professionals? Mostly, a number of them do not offer some sort of guidelines on how they are going to do it. Recently, I have been in check to know better what most of them provide, but I think that they only give a general idea, which is vogue. Is this because they are afraid to show let’s say their “pattern/tricks” of seo? If a person is not familiar/non-technical person, the client will be confused with what the terms involved and what’s the difference between them, and so he may be fooled with what actually, the terms really mean.
A company asking for seo must ask basically three simply questions:
1. How is their company going to help me rank my website?
2. How is the company going to do the search engine optimization (SEO)?
3. Tell them to show you their recent works.
Although I do mostly ask these questions, most of them try to ignore them and state me other obvious things which I already know.
It is important also to inform them, your company aims and objectives, and where you want to go. Obviously, your main goal should be in the first page of google, by using keywords, such as seo Malta. Apart from that, when searching for a seo company let them know your company’s main keywords like as I mentioned seo Malta and do check your competitor’s keywords,so that you will know which keywords are highly targeted.
I hope this would be helpful for those of you who are searching for seo companies!
SEO: What search engines look for?
by Stephanie Casha on Apr.17, 2011, under Marketing
How do Google and other search engines decide what pages appear at the top of a search results page?

It’s all about determining what a page’s content is about and how that content relates to the search at hand.
The goal of a search engine is to provide the most accurate results to its users. The search engines don’t care so much about the individual websites in their databases; they care about giving their users a more effective and efficient search experience.
When a search engine result, it’s with the intent of delivering the on best answer to that particular user’s query. Ideally, then, if someone is searching for a particular topic, those sites that best cover that topic will rise to the top of the search results.
However, how do the search engines know what content is on a given page?
There are a number of things the search engines look for- which happen to be the very things you’ll want to optimize on your site.
- Unique content
- HTML tags
- Inbound links/ backlinks
I will be describing every single aspect of SEO in the next post…

The basis of Marketing
Marketing is the activity of presenting, advertising, and selling a company’s products. To do that, you need to understand the company’s strengths and weaknesses, and be aware of possible opportunities and threats. This is called a ‘SWOT’ analysis:
Strengths, e.g. specialist skills in the company
Weaknesses, e.g. limited financial resources
Opportunities, e.g. increased demand for a product from a particular market sector
Threats, e.g. a downturn in the economy, reducing overall demand

Windows Boot Faster

Windows Boot Faster
Did you know that we can boot up our windows faster? I am sure that it has crossed our mind especially when we are in a hurry.
So, this is a quick trick:
- Open your start menu, type msconfig and hit enter.
- In the msconfig click the boot tap and check the box that contains no gui boot and click ok.
This will simply disable the windows flash screen that appears when you start up or restart your computer. Enabling this will save you time to get into your desktop.
Sure this may only save a few seconds, but in today’s world every second you save can really make things fly by.
